OK, So It Was an Ugly Win

...but a win is a win is a win, right??? And the USC / UCLA games are always nail-biters -- the one game that the "winning" team of the year always dreads the most. Anyhow, it's done, we won, and the 2004 regular season is officially over. Now to the bowl....

A couple of interesting things about game day. First, I took the "metro-rail" -- Red Line to downtown connecting with the Gold Line to Pasadena. I was intrigued by the rider-ship: almost all USC fans (hardly any Bruins). So why is it that the rich conservatives from the land of milk and honey take public transit, while the liberal-leaning students choose other means of transport??? Just a question. No answer.

And, since the Rose Bowl is UCLA home turf, they had all the good seats (both in terms of location and comfort -- backs, arms, etc.) and we had the two end-zones (benches with nothing). In fact my seat was absolutely dead center with the upright for the goal post. But we couldn't complain because we soon discovered that Reggie Bush's Mother, Aunt and Uncle were just behind us (Reggie being our huge running star). So we figured if that was the best Reggie could do for his family that we must have rated highly as well.

And Roger and Chris -- remember the "hokies" some of the USC fans were dragging along at the first game? Well, substitute stuffed bears -- and lots more of them! I know there's at least one VA Tech alumni on this list (which would be Rita Smith), but I have to admit I had absolutely no idea what hokies were until I saw them being dragged around on a leash....

So tomorrow I'm homeward bound -- to begin my Christmas shopping. I thought I would be able to fulfill my grand daughter's request for cowboy boots while I was here, but quickly discovered that all the cowboy boots are sold by Mexican vendors in Mexican shoe sizes. Oh well, back to the internet....
